As domestic hardwood markets continue to evolve, visibility, relationship-building, and market intelligence have become more important than ever. One of the key ways NHLA supports its members is by maintaining an active presence across the hardwood supply chain, connecting with manufacturers, designers, exporters, flooring professionals, architects, and industry partners at major meetings, expos, and conferences throughout the year.

Member Benefits in Motion: Strengthening Domestic Markets Through Industry Presence

In February, NHLA expanded its member outreach at the Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association (IHLA) Convention in Indianapolis, where NHLA staff exhibited and met with members face-to-face. Events like IHLA continue to provide valuable opportunities for discussing inspection services, training, workforce development, membership resources, and market concerns impacting hardwood businesses across the country.

From regional lumber association meetings to international design and mass timber conferences, NHLA’s participation helps ensure the North American hardwood industry remains visible, competitive, and connected in both traditional and emerging markets.

In 2026 alone, NHLA staff attended or exhibited at events spanning nearly every sector of the hardwood industry ecosystem.

The year began with strong engagement at regional association meetings, including the Lake States Lumber Association (LSLA) in Green Bay, Wisconsin; the Western Hardwood Association (WHA) in Portland, Oregon; and the Missouri Forest Products Association (MFPA) in Jefferson City, Missouri. These events provided opportunities to connect directly with mills, manufacturers, and hardwood businesses navigating changing domestic demand and production challenges.

Throughout the spring, NHLA staff participated in specialized meetings representing nearly every segment of the industry, including:

• American Hardwood Manufacturers International (AHMI) Annual Meeting

• International Wood Products Association (IWPA) World of Wood

• Hardwood Manufacturers Association (HMA) Annual Meeting

• National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA)

• Kentucky Forest Industries Association (KFIA)

• Woodpack Global Annual Leadership Conference

• Architectural and design-focused events such as High Point Market and HD Expo

• The International Mass Timber Conference

These events allow NHLA to advocate for hardwood across multiple markets while gathering valuable insight into domestic market trends, consumer preferences, emerging technologies, and supply chain shifts that directly impact members.

The International Mass Timber Conference and HD Expo, for example, highlighted the growing intersection between hardwood manufacturing, sustainable construction, hospitality design, and architectural specification. As domestic markets increasingly emphasize sustainability, biophilic design, and natural materials, NHLA’s presence at these events helps position hardwood as a viable and competitive material in future-focused applications.

Similarly, attendance at events such as High Point Market and the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) meeting provides insight into residential design trends, furniture manufacturing, cabinetry demand, and shifting consumer expectations, all of which influence domestic hardwood consumption.

At the same time, NHLA’s participation in traditional hardwood and forestry meetings ensures continued support for the foundational sectors of the industry. Events such as the Virginia Forestry Summit, AWPA Annual Meeting, and regional lumber association gatherings help strengthen relationships between producers, service providers, inspectors, and manufacturers working through ongoing market volatility.

Beyond visibility, these meetings also create direct member benefits through networking, education, business development, and industry representation. NHLA staff use these opportunities to discuss training programs, inspection services, certification resources, advocacy efforts, and workforce development initiatives while listening to the real-time concerns of members across the supply chain.

In a challenging domestic market, maintaining those connections matters.

As market conditions shift, NHLA’s continued presence across the industry helps ensure members remain informed, represented, and connected, not only to current opportunities but to the future direction of hardwood manufacturing, design, and innovation.
