Position Description
The Baillie Group is one of North America's largest hardwood lumber manufacturers, distributors and exporters. We are a provider of hardwood logs, hardwood lumber and proprietary grade hardwood lumber products.
The Baillie Group is recruiting young professionals for our Manager Development Program, based out of 4 hub locations, across New York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and South Carolina. These locations are strategically selected as they are sawmills and concentration yards responsible for manufacturing hardwood lumber.
The Baillie Group’s Manager Development Program offers early-career professionals the opportunity to step into the hardwood lumber manufacturing industry. To experience hands-on rotations in a culture of continuous learning. Develop leadership and relationship management capabilities and build a strong foundation for long-term success. The program leverages a range of technical skills and degrees alongside business acumen providing you with meaningful work in manufacturing engineering, operations leadership, procurement, automation and supply chain management.
Manager Development Program Tasks (but not limited to):
• Working with Kiln Operators learning kiln schedules or sawmill managers and assisting him/her on his/her day-to-day routine
• Learning how to grade hardwood lumber
• Occasionally traveling with a salesman or buyers to be exposed to where our lumber comes from and goes to.
• Working directly with the Yard Manager to learn the daily operations of the facility, and day-to-day tasks
Manager Development Program Career Paths:
• Procurement: focused on building technical capabilities for managing Baillie’s Supplier Relationship, Sourcing Strategy and Supply Chain Integration through a variety of procurement roles like log buyers, data analytics and other relevant positions.
• Operations Leadership: focused on building technical capabilities for managing Baillie’s Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain function through roles in manufacturing engineering, operations supervision, supply chain, and other relevant positions.
• Supply Chain Management: focused on building technical capabilities for managing Baillie’s Supply Chain function through roles in production scheduling, demand and orders management, logistics planning, inventory management, packaging, purchasing.
Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in (preferred, but not limited to): Wood Sciences, Forestry, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management
• Strong understanding of the hardwood (or softwood) lumber industry.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities.
• Must be open to relocation
