Position Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lumber Buyer to join our team. This role is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing lumber inventory to ensure consistent supply, competitive pricing, and strong vendor relationships. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the lumber market, market trends, and product availability, along with the ability to make strategic buying decisions that support company goals.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase lumber products to maintain appropriate inventory levels across locations
Monitor market trends, pricing, and supply conditions to make informed buying decisions
Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve the best value for the company
Collaborate with operations, sales, and inventory teams to forecast needs and plan purchases
Track inventory movement and adjust buying strategies based on demand and seasonal trends
Ensure product quality and consistency from suppliers
May perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in lumber purchasing or a related role
Strong understanding of the lumber market, grades, species, and pricing dynamics
Proven ability to negotiate and manage supplier relationships
Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Proficiency with purchasing systems and inventory management is a plus
A proactive and strategic thinker who understands market fluctuations
Someone who can react quickly to supply challenges and opportunities
A team player who works well across departments
Salary & Benefits
$80,000 - $130,000 per year
