Position Description
The Regional Procurement Manager is responsible for leading all procurement-related activities within the Eastern U.S. region, with a primary focus on sourcing veneer and resale logs to support operations at the Williamsport, Pennsylvania facility. This role works closely with Procurement & Production Leadership, and the log buying team to ensure a reliable supply of raw materials while maintaining quality, operational efficiency, and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Procurement Leadership and Production Management to develop, implement, and maintain purchasing plans that support production requirements.
Lead and coordinate the activities of the company's log buying team to ensure procurement objectives are achieved.
Maintain a thorough understanding of log specifications, sorting requirements, and quality standards as they relate to production capabilities and customer needs.
Manage log sorting operations within the log yard and monitor the performance of various production programs in coordination with Procurement Leadership.
Oversee daily log yard operations, working closely with the Log Yard Supervisor to ensure safe, efficient, and productive workflows.
Manage log yard inventory to minimize spoilage and maximize value through proper storage practices, inventory rotation, and timely utilization.
Monitor inventory levels and procurement activities to ensure adequate supply while supporting company inventory and cash flow objectives.
Prepare and maintain regular reports related to procurement activities, purchasing performance, and log yard inventory.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on procurement efficiency, quality, safety, and cost management.
Foster strong relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders to support business objectives.
Required Skills & Experience
Qualifications (strongly suggested)
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Business, Wood Products, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the wood products industry, and ideally, with a strong emphasis on veneer production.
Strong knowledge of log procurement, sorting, grading, and quality specifications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and SAP, SQL reporting, or comparable business software systems.
Willingness to travel.
Ability to work a flexible schedule during peak business periods.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Experience with veneer and saw log export markets.
Timber procurement experience.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and coordinating cross-functional operations.
