Job Opening Detail Log Yard Manager Danzer Veneer Americas Log Yard Manager Danzer Veneer Americas Edinburgh, Indiana Position Description Danzer Veneer Americas is excited to announce we are hiring a Log Yard Manager for our EDINBURGH, INDIANA location. This position oversees the daily operations of the log yard operations, management of a staff of 9 people, and overseeing the safety and efficiency of all log yard activities. Schedule: Monday- Friday, day shift. Competitive pay, with benefits available on day 1 that include a zero deductible, copay only medical plan. 401K matching, weekly pay, 10 paid holidays per calendar year, 3-weeks of PTO annually, training and advancement opportunities available. Core Responsibilities Log Receiving and Sorting: Assist in the receiving of all logs delivered to the facility, which includes remeasurement, grading and sorting. Log yard management data includes handheld computers and desk top based SAP for inventory information. Equipment & Yard Flow: Directing the movement of heavy machinery (ie: loaders, forwarders, trucks) and overseeing the maintenance of rolling stock and yard facilities. Safety & Compliance: Enforcing strict OSHA standards to minimize workplace hazards and promote a rigorous safety culture among staff. Quality Control: Ensuring logs are rotated properly to prevent decay and are sorted into the correct bins so that the mill receives the ideal product mix. Required Skills & Experience Managers increasingly rely on software solutions like SAP to track log flow, production requirements, and inventory age. Typical Qualifications: Experience: Hands-on background in forestry, timber processing, or log yard operations. Knowledge of species identification and log measuring. Certifications: Knowledge of OSHA safety compliance is a plus. Skills: Leadership ability, equipment operation knowledge, and problem-solving abilities. Species Guide Alder Jump to Species The Basics Species Overview Alder is the major commercial species grown on the western seaboard of the United States and is unique to the hardwood forest resources of North America; one of the few red hardwood species. Alder is almost white when freshly cut, but quickly changes on exposure to air, becoming light brown with a yellow or reddish tinge. There is no visible difference between the sap and the heartwood, although heartwood is formed only in older or mature trees. The wood of alder is fairly straight grain, somewhat similar in character to cherry, with uniform texture. Scientific Name Alnus rubra Avg. Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Lumber Grader to join our team. This role is responsible for grading hardwood lumber according to NHLA standards to ensure quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of lumber grading rules, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. Required Skills & Experience Duties & Responsibilities • Grade hardwood lumber according to NHLA rules and company standards. • Inspect lumber for defects, species, and quality to determine grade. • Ensure accurate tallying and recording of graded lumber. • Work closely with production staff to maintain consistent quality standards. • Monitor lumber flow and assist in optimizing production efficiency. • Communicate with management regarding quality issues or improvements. • Maintain a clean and organized grading area in compliance with OSHA safety standards. • Provide training and guidance to junior staff on grading practices. • Perform other related duties as assigned.
