Gibson McIlvain White Marsh, MD Position Description Job Description: The Assistant Mill Manager will oversee the Millwork operations. The Assistant Mill Manager role will include the development of Millwork capabilities, employees, and efforts for continuous improvement. The performance of the Mill will be measured with various metrics on production, efficiency, labor usage, lead times, quality control, profitability, and organization. The Assistant Mill Manager will have direct reports and will develop, train, and mentor such employees as needed to perform necessary duties at superior levels of safety, quality, equipment utilization and maintenance, and efficiency. Responsibilities: • Direct Reports will include Molder Machine Operators and Trainees; Saw, Grinder, Planer, and Sander Operators; other equipment Operators and Helpers; Tool Room Crews; Material Handlers (Wrappers, Packers); Inventory and Scheduler Coordinators. • Lead and demonstrate safe practices and abide by all equipment and company safety protocols and assist with all necessary training on all equipment. • Schedule, coordinate, and perform required maintenance on all equipment. • Provide guidance, training, supervision, and discipline over all Millwork employees as well as cross train employees to perform in different roles. • Perform / oversee necessary milling and modifications to lumber to customer specifications. • Maintain high levels of quality control and frequent inspections, focusing on Material counts. • Manage / oversee the raw material flow with a focus on waste management / reduction. • Manage shop materials and inventory; procure shop supplies and tools within set budget. • Support Sales Department with product and production flow details and recommendations. • Set and communicate lead times for products and ensure strict adherence. • Attend and hold regular production meetings, maintain production data. • Coordinate waste management. • Provide guidance on material handling and packaging requirements. • Other duties as assigned by management. Required Skills & Experience Position Requirements: • Prior training or certifications in one or more of the following preferred: NHLA, OSHA, LEAN, Kaizen, SIX SIGMA, AAMA, Engineering, Machining, Manufacturing. • Experience - Minimum 8 years in production field required including but not limited to; minimum 5 years in management of production operation; or a minimum 5 years of combination of training, use, and maintenance of multiple types of industrial processing / manufacturing equipment, wood working equipment, and other relevant equipment. • Knowledge of Lumber Species and Grading is strongly preferred. Salary & Benefits Salary: • Annual base salary, range from $65,000 to $85,000 • Bonus potential based on annual company profitability • Relocation assistance up to $5,000 if necessary Company Benefits: • Eligibility effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of continuous employment. • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance. • 401(k) Retirement Plan, company matches up to 10% of employee contributions. • Company paid Life Insurance Policy; value is twice the employee’s salary with a cap at $150,000.00. • Company paid Short- and Long-Term Disability Policy; pays 60% of your salary while you are unable to work. • Paid Holidays, Vacation and Sick time. The Industrial Programmer/Maintenance Electrician plays a critical role in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment to keep machines operating efficiently. Two-year associates electrical/electronic degree, or similar training in an accredited apprentice program preferred. Requires full knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), their function, set-up and programming. Must be capable of making changes to control systems when necessary. Must have excellent analytical and methodical problem solving, troubleshooting and decision-making skills. Must be proficient using all electrical measuring equipment. Must be capable of working from schematics, diagrams, and electrical drawings for controls analysis. Must have working knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures. Must be able to meet the physical requirements including walking, bending, crawling, reaching, stooping, and twisting. Must be able to withstand a production environment with exposure to dust, fumes and varying high/low temperatures. Gibson McIlvain White Marsh, MD Position Description This position’s primary role is to take over existing areas of our domestic wood purchasing program, responsible for purchasing assigned inventory items, maintaining appropriate levels of inventory, and collaborating with internal customers to keep everyone informed of pricing and market trends. The Domestic Wood Products Purchasing Assistant and Trainee drives business value by supporting the Domestic Wood Products Purchasing Manager and maintaining, analyzing, and reporting consumption and price information to identify and deliver improvement. The individual in this position must competitively bid on wood product purchases, to identify and deliver cost reduction as well as contribute to process efficiency. Also, must establish and maintain purchase information in LumberTrack and on Excel Spreadsheets for Accounts Payable and Purchasing, consistent with company goals and specifications for quality and timeliness. The Domestic Wood Purchasing Assistant and Trainee is a key team member to ensure supply continuity and drive total value. Responsibilities: • Assist in analyzing spending, source, bid, negotiate, make commitments, maintain records for assigned responsibilities and support operations. Establish purchases of materials in support of operations within assigned buyer areas. • Detailed analysis and interpretation of all data maintained, including but not limited to spend, categories, suppliers, purchase orders, bids, and other transactions or analysis as required. • Support and deliver continuous improvement opportunities related to assigned buy space, procure to pay process, or other responsibilities. • Assist the manager in maintaining a large lumber inventory. • Maintain contracts, databases, information records, or source lists. • Visit domestic sawmills quarterly to create and maintain relationships. • Actively working with Production to evaluate the quality of the wood products purchased. • Other tasks as assigned by the Purchasing Manager. • Stay involved and active in relevant Associations and working groups. • Be an ambassador and continuously improve upon J. Gibson McIlvain’s reputation within the sawmill and business community. Required Skills & Experience Requirements: • BS Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field. • Demonstrated analytical skills with statistics, and report writing skills. • Five years minimum experience purchasing domestic hardwood products. • NHLA Grading knowledge and experience. • Quarterly travel to sawmills. • Proficient with Microsoft Office (emphasizing spreadsheets, presentations, and databases). • Act decisively with a sense of urgency, but able to collaborate and build alignment. • Must take initiative and be comfortable working independently on multiple projects simultaneously. • Capable of prioritizing, meeting deadlines, and delivering results. • Requires demonstrated communication skills, clear articulate speech, good listening skills, and the ability to generate clear, concise written documentation. • Ability to influence through indirect authority is essential.
