The NHLA Heat
Treatment Audit Program was
established in July
2001 to serve the needs of lumber
and wood packing products
producers.
The purpose of the program is to certify the
conformance of
heat treated lumber and pallets,
crates and boxes
to the
international quality standards
per International
Plant Protection
Convention
(IPPC)
Guidelines. These standards call for phytosanitary
measures
aimed at reducing the risk of introduction
and/or
spread of
quarantine pests,
such as the
Asian Long-Horned Beetle, associated
with wood
packaging material, including dunnage, made from
coniferous
and non-coniferous green lumber.
