Membership

NHLA is an inclusive organization with membership divided into six categories:

Active

Dues and qualification for Active membership are based upon sales of individuals, firms or corporations engaged in the manufacturing, custom kiln drying, wholesaling or distribution of North American hardwood or cypress lumber, veneer, plywood and related products and if such persons or entities maintain their headquarters in North America.

Business types include: sawmills, dry kilns, exporters, importers, concentration yards, distribution yards, brokers, dimension plants, wholesalers.

Partner

Partner membership is for individuals firms or corporations engaged in consumption or manufacturing, custom kiln drying, wholesaling or distribution of hardwood or cypress lumber, veneer, plywood and related products that have their headquarters outside of North America.

Sustaining

Sustaining membership is for individuals, firms or corporations who supply services, materials or equipment to the active or associate members of the Association or who are owners of North American hardwood timberlands providing the basic raw materials for the industry. Business types include but are not limited to: equipment manufacturers, insurance agencies, consultants, software developers, logistics, transportation providers, timberland owners.

Associate

Associate membership is for individuals, firms or corporations that are consumers of North American hardwood or cypress lumber, veneer, plywood or related products for manufacturing with headquarters in North America. Business types include but are not limited to: cabinet shops, furniture and flooring manufacturers, molding and millworks, pallet manufacturers.

Inspector

Inspector membership is for individuals who grade or inspect hardwood lumber for an Active or Associate category company but do not operate their own inspection service business.

Research

Research category membership is for individuals or organizations that conduct North American hardwood forestry or hardwood forest products utilization research or who have an interest in hardwood research results.
