Master
Kiln Operator Certification Program
The
NHLA Master Kiln Operator Certification Program was developed
to recognize kiln operators who have attained advanced
knowledge and experience in the hardwood lumber-drying
field. This program was conceived through the cooperation
of technical experts from several universities, dry kiln
associations and the NHLA.
NHLA
has assembled a committee of nationally respected experts
in the hardwood lumber-drying field. This committee developed
the testing standards and will grade the exams. This committee
will also evaluate the applicant’s documentation of
work history and training and will deal with all technical
issues that may arise. Successfully drying hardwood lumber
requires a great deal of skill, knowledge and experience.
For more information please contact Mark
Horne, 901-377-1818.

Master Kiln Operator Certification Test Ground Rules
The following procedures must be followed while taking the
Master Kiln Operator Certification Test (failure to comply
will render individuals ineligible for certification):
This test is not to be copied or shared with any other
people.
You are not to ask any other person for help in any way
during this testing period (not by phone, fax, email, etc.).
You may consult printed/written materials to help you find
answers to questions you cannot readily answer.
You have two weeks from the date on the test to complete
and return to NHLA.
You must achieve a minimum score of 80% to pass the examination.
NHLA will notify you of the results of your examination
within 2-3 weeks upon receipt of your completed test.
The “spirit” of
the Master Kiln Operator Certification Program is to create
a vehicle that will enable NHLA to identify
the top professional hardwood lumber kiln operators in our
industry. By not divulging the contents of the exam to others,
you will help maintain the integrity of this program by ensuring
that future applicants will have to put in the same long
