    The Inspector Training School is a 12-week class comprised of 408 contact hours. Contact hours are completed through a combination of lecture and lab time. Standard class hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students who successfully fulfill all program requirements will receive a certificate of completion.

  • Inspector Training School Progressive Program: Block 3

    The “Progressive Program” is divided into three blocks. Upon successful completion of one block, a student can then progress to the next study block. • Block 1 requires two weeks of hands-on study at the NHLA Inspector Training School in Memphis, Tenn. • Block 2 allows for up to 12 months of online study for memorization and study of required material. • Block 3 requires an additional three weeks of classroom study and board runs back at NHLA headquarters. Standard class hours for Block 1 are Monday through Friday with the addition of one Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Standard class hours for Block 3 are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students who successfully complete all 3 required blocks will receive a certificate of completion.   • One Day Kiln Drying Class

     Operating a lumber drying facility, especially one drying hardwood lumber, requires special skills. A significant amount of lumber can be degraded or damaged during drying when proper techniques are not used. This course is for beginning operators and supervisors drying hardwood lumber using air-dry yards, pre-dryers, steam or dehumidification dry kilns.

  • One Day Log Grading Short Course

     The Log Grading short course is designed to present a working knowledge of the U.S. Forest Service Grading System and its relationship to lumber grades and product utilization. Emphasis is placed on Log Scaled Comparisons, Projected Lumber Yield, and Species Identification.
